The Trump debacle started when he chose to conduct a photo-op at Section 60 at Arlington National Cemetery. This section is a resting place for heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq or Afghanistan. Their families and loved ones come to pay their respects on this hallowed ground. This action blatantly violated one of America’s most sacred places.
After being permitted to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers, Donald Trump and his staff went to section 60 for a photo-op and video op without permission. This was solely to create a campaign ad for his political campaign, which is failing. The impact of his actions was profound, as young widows, seen cutting, clipping, and grooming the grassy area around their gold star sons and daughters, husbands and wives who died defending their country, were disrespected. Trump’s derogatory remarks about these brave gold star military personnel, who gave their lives in defense of their country as suckers and losers, stand in stark contrast to the respect and dedication shown by these widows. These widows who have lost their loved ones continue to show respect and commitment to the memory of their fallen heroes, while Trump, who has never served his country, disrespects their sacrifice.
Donald Trump and his staff were permitted to help lay the wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier. Trump and his staff moved on to section 60, where the most recent soldier died from both Afghanistan and Iraq, to do a photo-op and a video op that would later used on a campaign ad on TickTock. An employee responsible for maintaining the site’s sanctity warned Trump and staffers not to do a photo-op in this section because it violates federal law prohibiting any form of political campaigning at the tomb. Despite this clear warning, Chris la Civita and Steve Cheung disregarded the law and moved the young woman aside even tho she was doing her job, stopping them from filming at section 60. Two of Trump’s staffers, Chris LA Civita and Steven Cheung, attacked the woman for doing her job, calling the employee a mentally ill and a despicable individual who should be fired. Chris LA Civita and Steven Cheung, both of these staffers and Donald Trump are both mentally ill as well as despicable for violating federal law.
Donald Trump will stop at nothing to pursue his agenda. During the photo op, Trump callously gave a thumbs-up sign over the grave of the gold star hero, a gesture often associated with approval or satisfaction, and grinned, a facial expression of happiness or amusement, while standing over a gold star recipient’s grave, showing blatant disrespect. These actions, especially in such a solemn place, are deeply offensive and disrespectful. Military personnel, both past and present, should be outraged by such behavior. Donald Trump has once again shown that he prioritizes his interests over our constitution, laws, the American people, and the military.
