The Navajo Nation

It is important to clarify that Navajo Congressman Rep. Eric Descheenie is a member of the Navajo Nation, a recognized American Indian tribe within the United States. This clarification is necessary in response to an inquiry about his immigration status from an individual named Steve Silberman.

There are over 500 different tribes across North America. One of these tribes is the Navajo tribe, which predominantly inhabited the southwestern corner of the USA. The Navajo are one of the original tribes, and their territory spanned across Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado.

Since 1923, the Navajo Nation has worked hard to maintain a strong economy. The discovery of oil on Navajo land has made them one of the wealthiest nations. They have established Navajo council chambers, which now host 88 council delegates and over 110 Navajo Nation chapters. Currently, the Navajo Nation’s population stands at 250,000.

During World War 2, the Navajo language was used as a code to help beat Japan. World War 2 later became known as the Navajo code talkers. In 1941, 29 Navajo recruits completed their training at a Marine boot camp. After graduation, they created a code based on the Navajo language, which the military used. 400 Navajo individuals were trained in this code and became known as the Navajo code talkers. They served with distinction in every major battle in the Pacific theater, and their contributions were crucial to the success of the US Marines in critical engagements, such as the capture of Iwo Jima.

Mr. Steve Silberman, it’s important to understand that studying American history reveals that the Navajo nation is just one of many Indigenous nations that predate the arrival of our forefathers in America.
