Opinion: Trump’s Tariffs and the GOP’s ‘Big Beautiful’ Betrayal

Trump didn’t rewrite the rules—he broke them. And Americans are left paying for the wreckage.

In May 2025, the U.S. trade deficit increased by 11.1%, reaching $96.6 billion. Exports collapsed, inflation ticked higher, and working families took yet another economic hit. Trump’s trade war wasn’t a masterstroke—it was a misfire.

But the damage doesn’t stop with him. House Republicans passed his so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” a Frankenstein’s monster of corporate tax breaks, Medicaid cuts, and ideological stunts. It’s not policy—it’s performance art with a price tag.

Even when Trump lied about a China trade deal—a deal that never existed—his own Treasury Secretary contradicted him. GOP leaders said nothing. No corrections. No spine. Just silence.

Now Senator Tommy Tuberville is trying to criminalize dissent. Following immigration protests in Los Angeles, he proposed making it a federal crime to block roads during demonstrations. Rather than addressing why Americans are taking to the streets, Tuberville wants to silence them. He also lashed out at the Senate parliamentarian, calling her “WOKE” and demanding she be fired for rejecting a provision that would have stripped Medicaid access from undocumented immigrants.

This isn’t leadership—it’s a circus. Performative outrage. Manufactured enemies. Punishment over policy.

Let’s be clear:
This is betrayal. Of facts. Of working people. Of democracy.

We don’t need more flags in speeches—we need the truth in our laws. And we don’t need more slogans. We need leaders who are willing to face the facts and serve the people they claim to represent.
